The first time I ever tried meditation, I had a picture-perfect vision in my head: me, gracefully seated cross-legged in a candle-lit room, surrounded by serene souls, effortlessly slipping into deep, Zen-like bliss.
Yeah… that did not happen.
Instead, I found myself packed into a room with a hundred people flailing their arms like frantic seagulls, breathing like wild animals, and—wait for it—screaming. Loudly. Then came the manic laughter, the jumping, and a chorus of deep, guttural “HUUUUU” chants, followed by an eerie, motionless silence.
I peeked through one skeptical eye, planted myself firmly on the floor, clamped my hands over my ears, and thought: Oh dear God… these poor, lost souls. Thank heavens I’m not one of them.
Oh, how wrong I was.
I just didn’t know it yet. 😉
Little did I know, this madness was only the beginning. What followed in the years to come would shake me to my core. The breakdowns I once feared became the very stepping stones to a stronger, healthier me.
